Sustain and Promote Good Health With These Tips

As a natural hair beauty professional, you spend your days putting your customers’ needs first.  You work long hours, all while standing. To take care of your clients better, you need to take care of your health.

These five tips help you care for your body, rejuvenate your mind, and allow you to continue to provide excellent service to your clients.

Take A Break

Whether you decide to sit down or elevate your legs, take a 5- or 10-minute break every hour.  Use this time to reduce the physical stress placed on your legs so that when you return to your client, you’ll feel rejuvenated.

Tip: Find and install a timer app on your smartphone to remind you to take your breaks.

Stretch

Incorporate stretches into your hourly break routine.  Before returning to your client, make time to stretch your arms, legs, and back to realign your posture and reduce the strain you might feel in your shoulders and neck.

Tip: Since your clients have been sitting a long time, encourage them to stretch and realign their posture, too.

Wear Compression Socks

Compression socks help reduce swelling in your feet and ankles and aches from standing for long periods.  They may also help prevent tissue damage. These socks are inexpensive and can be found in online stores and in most pharmacies.

Tip: If your medical doctor tells you that you need to wear compression socks, and prescribes them, your health insurance might cover the expense. https://amzn.to/2DZ1hns

Stand on Compression Mats

Like compression socks, compression mats prevent fatigue and long-term tissue damage. Varying in thickness to suit your needs, mats are an inexpensive and effective investment for your workstation.

Tip: Place a mat beneath the chair at your station and stand on it while you style your client. https://amzn.to/2TEWqfK

Breathing

Practice deep and intentional breathing.  Initiating deep breaths from your core (your midsection) will help you clear your mind of distractions, reduce your stress levels and lower your blood pressure.

Tip: Breathe in slowly through your nose and then exhale slowly through your mouth.

No matter if you’re new to the natural hair profession or a veteran, these tips will benefit you and help you promote good health throughout your career. And as you take care of your health, your clients will benefit, too
